How to Light a Still Life

Unlike landscapes, still life renders are frequently uncluttered and feature perhaps just one or two objects in a simple, often sterile, environment. This is a particularly challenging subject because the shortcomings of the render engine have no complex materials or geometry to hide behind. For this reason, still life renders require the most complex lighting solutions and almost always require the simulation of indirect lighting because they tend to be representations of indoor (or studio), rather than outdoor lighting environments. Here a subject is lit using Image Based Lighting, then more satisfactorily with True Ambience.
