Foam Around an Island – How to Create a Realistic Coastline

In real life, when a body of water encounters land, waves break against shore, the surface becomes locally disrupted by the presence of land mass. In Bryce, unfortunately, things do not happen unless we make them happen. Using a procedurally generated terrain height map is one means of creating this useful illusion, by incorporating modified versions of the same procedural texture components as was used to form the height map it is possible to create the impression that the water surface material is responding to the terrain it encounters.This is a variation of the method described in the Roads on a Terrain tutorial and as such is really only suitable for those who are already familiar with the working of the DTE and want to take their Bryce skills to the next level.
